According to Bank of America, the 3G iPhone will release in May, just in time for the launch of the iPhone 2.0 update.

The iPhone 2.0 update should prove to be a major boost for the iPhone, and one which Apple obviously wants to capitalize on as much as they can.

It will release with new enterprise features such as Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, as well as the AppStore. The AppStore is likely going to be the most desirable part of the update for the average user, as it will allow consumers to purchase games and other applications right over the AT&T network, or over a WiFi network.

Apple is apparently getting the 3G iPhone to release just before the launch of iPhone 2.0.

Bank of America has stated that the 3G iPhone will start to go into heavy production in May and June.

This goes right in line with the iPhone 2.0 update, planned for June.

AT&T has even stated that the 3G iPhone will go on sale at some point in 2008.

The 3G iPhone will offer faster high-speed wireless access, which will mean faster downloads off of YouTube, the AppStore, browing on Safari, etc.

Apple has yet to officially comment on the release of the 3G iPhone, but is apparently banking on it selling very well to reach its target of 10 million iPhones sold this year.
