When the Nike+ iPod Sports Kit was released, I went all out and got the kit, the shoes, and the armband. I figured it would be a good way for me to actually see how many miles I ran per week and see how many calories I was burning. I haven't used the sports kit in a while, mainly because I don't always have time to update or keep up with my Nikeplus profile, but all that may soon change if the rumors are true.

According to a blog post on Stuff.tv, a Nike+ spokesperson says that Nike+ will be extending its compatibility beyond the iPod nano to support the iPhone and the iPod Touch. This is exciting news because the iPhone and iPod Touch both have Wi-Fi capabilities, which means you wouldn't have to dock your iPhone to update your Nikeplus profile. There's also that rumor that a 3G iPhone is on the horizon, so in the future, you might even be able to update your profile while you're still out running.

Of course, this is something Nike has yet to announce, but it would be in the company's best interest to take their Nike + iPod line to the next level in order to remain competitive now that more and more sporting gadgets, like the Adidas miCoach, are being released.
