Sony Ericsson and The Carphone Warehouse have teamed up with multi-million dollar, multi-platinum record empire Def Jam Records to offer customers a limited edition white and gold W910i Walkman® handset and matching MPS 75 speakers in black and gold.

These 'hip-hop heavy' handsets containing exclusive Def Jam label content will only be on sale at The Carphone Warehouse stores in the UK from 8 April 2008. This partnership is a first in the UK in terms of any major record label teaming up with a mobile phone manufacturer and offering customers a collective of exclusive content from a number of artists (on one label).

In their quest to provide customers with unique music experiences, Sony Ericsson will be preloading onto limited edition W910i Walkman® handsets audio and visual material from an assortment of chart topping Def Jam artists. The handsets will be an eye-catching white and gold exterior and would be fit for any hip-hop mogul on Def Jam records, from Kanye West to Rihanna and Mariah Carey.

As part of Sony Ericsson's mobile music partnership with the record label that defines hip-hop and RnB, consumers will be also able to enter a 'money can't buy' competition to win one-off customized W910i white and gold Walkman® handsets designed in collaboration with DefJam.

Dave Hilton, Head of Marketing at Sony Ericsson, UK & Ireland: "As a powerful portable music device the W910i is the perfect suitor for a Def Jam makeover. The content Def Jam has supplied looks and sounds fantastic and somehow just fits perfectly with the white and gold exterior - we're hoping it will help make the W910i a Carphone Warehouse chart-topper."

George Dymond, UK Trading Director at The Carphone Warehouse said, "Our customers regularly tell us just how much they love music. Mobile Life* research reveals that nearly 40% of people download and listen to music on their mobiles rising to well over half of young people. We are excited to bring them such a great range of Def Jam content on the W910i."

Kim de Ruiter, Commercial & New Business Manager at Mercury Music Group, the label responsible for Def Jam in the UK: "Joining our unique Def Jam artists with Sony Ericsson in this way allows us to reach a targeted audience in an interesting and relevant way, while at the same time entering a new, non-traditional music retail space to market our acts"
